Evaluation
What it is
Cloudron is a managed self-hosting platform. Like YunoHost it provides one-click app installation, built-in SSO, user management, SSL, and automatic updates — but with a more polished interface and a focus on reliability and ease of use.
Why it could be useful
Cloudron is arguably the most user-friendly self-hosting platform available. App updates are handled automatically, backups are built in, and the app catalogue is large and well-maintained. The SSO and user management story is clean. For organisations that want self-hosting without any infrastructure management, it is the most complete option.
Why not to go for it
The platform itself is not open source and user limits are enforced by a paid subscription. The free tier allows one app. For anything beyond that, a paid plan is required. This creates a dependency on Cloudron as a vendor, which undermines some of the autonomy that self-hosting is meant to provide.
